War Machine

release year: 2026
genre: action
viewing setting: home streaming 6/9/26

synopsis: A team of Army Ranger candidates ends up facing a relentless, murderous giant alien robot.

impressions: Fairly entertaining. It starts off as the quest of a soldier with PTSD but then veers into alien-invasion territory. Worse (for the soldiers) they have no weapons that can hurt the thing...and it's chasing them down with single-minded purpose as they flee through the mountains and forests of Colorado. At times, the situation seemed hopeless...until the protagonist had some ideas and desperately put them into action.

acting: Alan Ritchson is the main guy, who overcomes his issues as he leads the ever-dwindling team. Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales are Ranger sergeants who factor in at the beginning. Stephan James is the former leader of the group of recruits. Alex King is the only female soldier candidate and has a lot of good action moments.

final word: Good (if often bleak) man-vs-machine action.
