Star Trek, the original series, season 1 episode 16: The Galileo Seven

release year: 1967
genre: television sci-fi
viewing setting: home streaming 7/19/26 and 10/31/24 and many other times in the past

synopsis: A shuttlecraft with seven people is lost, and the Enterprise only has a few hours to search for them. The planet that the shuttle crashed on is inhabited by huge, hairy beasts that want to kill the intruders.

impressions: Here we have an episode where Spock is in charge and has to weigh logic against emotion when figuring out what to do...while the clock is ticking. It's possible that the crisis never would have happened had Kirk not decided to send out a side mission during another crisis, but whatever. There are some interesting debates and arguments in this one.

acting: Aside from Spock's lead role here, McCoy and Scotty are also among those on the shuttle.

final word: Good danger-filled episode from the early days of the series.
