synopsis: A drilling site in Mongolia uncovers more than oil.

impressions: The first victim bit the dust before the 3-minute mark, which was a strong start. This movie focused more on the human interactions than the monsters, but threw in a death every so often to keep things going. There was some subplot about Genghis Khan's tomb and various parties searching for it, but it didn't make much sense. The monsters seemed to be a mix of special effects and CGI, but either way they had one quality unusual in giant monsters: these were not bulletproof. They could be hurt or killed by small arms fire and shotgun blasts. Random side note: not a single phone in this entire movie had good reception, so the characters were never able to communicate and figure things out.

acting: Sean Patrick Flanery is the main hero/scoundrel who joins forces with the visiting doctor, played by Victoria Pratt. They make an entertaining couple, constantly bickering even as they work to save people and stop the monsters. Veteran actor and stuntman George Cheung is the local policeman. Drew Waters and Matthew Tompkins are the evil plant manager and his evil boss, both of whom are complete douchebags who meet well-deserved fates by the end of the movie.

final word: Fairly well-done and entertaining monster action.
