synopsis: In the future, people live inside a gigantic domed city, where every need and want is provided; the only catch is that when you turn 30, you have to die. Is there any escape from this society?
impressions: This had some slow parts, but it was fairly entertaining, and portrayed one vision of the future from half a century ago. It was also ahead of its time, and depicted a society that could really come about...people don't seem to have a care in the world since everything is provided automatically, and nobody questions anything. The only thing missing was cell phones in their hands and occupying their minds at all times.
acting: Michael York is the cop turned runner, who starts to realize that things aren't right. Jenny Agutter is the cute runner who eventually falls in love with him. Richard Jordan is the fellow cop who ends up fanatically chasing his former friend because he can't understand why anyone would question the perfect society. Peter Ustinov is an old man living outside the domes, who is encountered eventually; he has some humorous lines and behaviors. Farrah Fawcett-Majors has a minor role as a nurse who's a little slow to figure things out.
final word: Classic if dated science-fiction adventure, and a true product of the 1970s.
