synopsis: Some experimental attack dinosaurs break free and terrorize a military base.

impressions: This was another one whose promotional picture/art showed something (a huge dinosaur within a burning city) that was NEVER IN THE DAMN MOVIE. All events here took place in a nearly-deserted military base that was shown via the same aerial stock footage every ten minutes to remind us of what the hell was going on. Here are some things you'll find in this movie: allosauruses...the world's dumbest soldier gets too close to the gap in the cage's bars...repeated use of the word "assets" to describe the dinosaurs...the things being bulletproof...a simplified plot that makes the mission much more straightforward...no explanation of how the things got indoors...officers repeatedly passing an impossible job down the chain of command without understanding that it just can't be done...the smaller dinosaur freeing the mother...elite soldiers who apparently can't keep track of a giant dinosaur that just ran past them...pointless phone calls to the general when the main concern should be surviving the things that are hunting you at that very moment...dinosaurs that disarm explosives and cut the power...gigantic guns. For all that, the movie actually wasn't that bad; it had a minimum of stupid lines, displayed good special effects, and moved along nicely while maintaining a high body count. Speaking of which...

body count: 11 humans, several dinosaurs (it was tough to know since not all deaths were shown onscreen and also since sometimes it wasn't clear whether dinosaurs had been hit or not)

acting: Jack Pearson was the leader of the rather puny special forces force tasked with stopping the rampant dinosaurs. Jamie Bernadette was the officer in charge of the base and its research. Alissa Filoramo was the head scientist lady who helped out when the going got tough. Eric Roberts was a smug, sneering general who checked in a little too often to see how the contain-the-dinosaurs effort was going (and complained after every update.)

final word: Decent low-budget dinosaur mayhem, worth watching once for sure.
