synopsis: A variety of characters end up trapped in a detention facility while the dinosaurs that were brought there escape and run wild.
impressions: Running wild, running free...that's how it is when you're a velociraptor in this movie. There's some sort of shady government business that is fraught with mistakes and results in three of the things having many opportunities to hunt, kill, and feast. That said, it was fairly well-made and entertaining; there were plenty of different characters, and some of them found themselves thrown together in this crazy situation. Some things you'll find in this movie: a stupid sorority initiation..."the shipment" being diverted to the detention facility for reasons never explained...an almost girl-fight (which my wife referred to as "bitch action")...a convicted killer who happens to be in the place too...the guards have no weaponry more powerful than "stun batons"...a chick pukes in the cell...the power fails, creating an all-access situation for the dinosaurs...a side mission to find a dinosaur on the loose in the suburbs...a drug-caused hallucination that proves fatal since the big fuzzy bunny is actually a dinosaur...an unexplained herd of dinosaurs on the loose in the city, some of which are gigantic...an evil insane guy who was in charge of everything...someone getting shot with some sort of energy weapon (which my wife referred to as "he went crispy")...the entire city is on fire or in ruins...a complete dinosaur invasion.
body count: 20 humans (not all of them explcitly shown on-screen) plus 5 dinosaurs
acting: Ray Wise is the warden, who doesn't understand what's been brought to his prison or why but still wants to help deal with it and save people. Kevin Gage is the evil killer who happens to be there too, and ends up having to work with the random group of people who happened to be taken to jail that night. Vernon Wells is the evil agent/scientist/bureaucrat who caused this whole mess. Jack Forcinito is the main soldier-of-action tasked to deal with the problem. Robert LaSardo is his right-hand man. Dana Melanie is the clearest-thinking of the civilians stuck in the place.
final word: Surprisingly entertaining dinosaurs-stalk-humans-in-a-big-confined-space cheese.
