Ice-Pocalypse

release year: 2026
genre: sci-fi/disaster
viewing setting: home streaming 10/23/26

synopsis: An asteroid gets stuck in orbit between the Earth and the moon, causing the planet's temperature to drop.

impressions: This one wasted no time in setting up the problem and the solutions (plural because sometimes the first idea didn't work out.) While it was a mockbuster disaster movie, it took itself seriously, was well-paced and fairly well-acted, and had decent special effects. My only issue was that the main heroine seemed to have the ability to know everything and do anything just by looking at and typing on her laptop: she was a scientist, a weather expert, a coding expert, an apparent expert in all the various systems of a spaceship...you name it, she and her laptop could do it. This minor leap in logic was the glue that held the whole thing together and avoided numerous questions about what had just happened.

acting: Danielle Titus was that main super-useful hero woman, and did a good job in the role. Jay Krymis was a Space Force captain who also helped out a lot, particularly when the advanced spaceship needed to be piloted up to the asteroid. Bejo Dohmen is the husband of the female lead, whose main job is to shepherd their daughter to safety. Dakota Herndon is that daughter, who's also a super-coder/hacker. Patrick Labyorteaux is the high-ranking general in charge of everything.

final word: Low-budget but reasonably-entertaining disaster movie.
