A Working Man
"You killed your way into this. You're gonna have to kill your way out of it." - Gunny Lefferty
release year: 2025
genre: action
viewing setting: home Bluray 11/22/25 and 7/9/25
synopsis: An ex-military construction worker helps his boss, whose daughter has been kidnapped.
impressions: This one was Taken meets Equalizer meets John Wick, with Jason Statham as the hero. It delivered exactly what one would expect: plenty of action and lots of small plot holes. The strategy to get close to the bad guys (before eliminating them) was needlessly convoluted. Still, there was plenty of beating and shooting and righteous revenge against much-deserving bad guys.
acting: Jason Statham does what he seems to do best in the last couple of decades: he carries an action movie due to his attitude, athleticism, and ass-kicking. Arianna Rivas is the kidnapped girl, who is unusually resourceful and quick-thinking. David Harbour is an old, blind soldier friend of Statham who provides him with weapons. Michael Pena is the kidnapped girl's father. Isla Gie does a pretty good job as Statham's daughter, who understands that her dad has things he has to do. Jason Flemyng is one of the Russian gang leaders who is dealt with early on. A whole bunch of foreign actors with long names play all the bad guys.
see also: The print-on-demand book series whose first volume was adapted into this movie. I bought the first one and got hooked - they're fast-paced and full of action.
final word: Serviceable action adventure.
