Jurassic Croc

my wife: "Sorry this turned out to be a teen drama movie."
me: "Oh, I don't care...as long as the croc eats some of them."

release year: 2023
genre: monster mayhem
viewing setting: home streaming 11/23/25

synopsis: A bunch of young adults head to the forest for a field trip, unaware that a monstrously-large crocodile lurks there.

impressions: By "field trip" I mean many things: two of the kids are college students seeking a rare flower that's said to impart immortality, another goes because he's interested in the female student, and most of the rest just want to get drunk and party. Their bad luck is that the forest/lake village is also the home of a giant crocodile. This movie comes to us from Thailand and was fairly well-done; the camera work and acting were strong and the croc special effects were pretty good. Some notable elements included: early flash-forward to the best croc attack, to get the viewers' interest early...overly photogenic and dramatic characters, not unlike a soap opera...clear evidence of giant croc presence ignored early on...the croc runs, fast...a major tactical misstep during the first croc attack as they flee TO THE BOAT and go BACK OUT ONTO THE WATER...sudden day/night transitions...a love quadrangle...a great deal of lively music and songs...the big leap as the croc launches up out of the water to take down a parasailer...a pointless sacrifice...the secret of the village revealed. There really was a lot going on here and it definitely kept me entertained and engaged.

confirmed body count: 6 by croc, 3 by humans

acting: I can't match actor names to characters because IMDB doesn't have any information. The standouts were the intelligent student girl, the main guy who was attracted to her, and the asshole guy who went after the main guy's own girlfriend. The leader of the village people was also quite sinister and menacing.

final word: Decent giant-crocodile action from Thailand.
