History's Great Escapes, season 1, episode 1

release year: 2021
genre: documentary/reenactment
viewing setting: home streaming 6/2/25

synopsis: This is the pilot episode of a series about great prison escapes from history; this one is about the events at Alcatraz in 1962.

impressions: Using a combination of narration, interview segments with experts or relatives, and re-enactments with nameless actors, this episode does a really good job of taking the viewer back to Alcatraz during the timeframe of the planning and execution of that infamous escape. (NOTE: we didn't watch the entire season/s because we were in a "let's watch as many single episodes of things in one day as possible, to sample a variety of shows" mode at the time.)

acting: n/a but Morgan Freeman does his usual great job narrating

final word: Great recreation of the past events; I want to watch more of this show.
