Henchman: The Al Leong Story
release year: 2018
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home streaming 2/8/26
synopsis: This documentary highlights the career and talent of a distinctive and accomplished actor and stuntman who was in a lot of action movies and TV shows in the 1980s and 1990s.
impressions: I'm not kidding: this guy was in so many things, yet nobody knew his name...you'd be like "hey, it's THAT guy!" He has a certain look, with his short pointy beard and Fu Manchu mustache...but damn, he could move and fight. This documentary reveals some of his accomplishments and also a lot of the challenges he faced - both detailed through not just his own narrative but also the words of people who know him and worked with him. What you may not have known is that he had cancer in the 1990s and a stroke in the 2000s and can no longer work...but the work he did will live on forever.
acting: n/a but there was a lot of interview footage featuring actors, crew, and stuntpeople who offered their perspectives on the man.
final word: Interesting and emotional look into the life and career of a very talented performer.
