Clash of the Titans

release year: 1981
genre: fantasy action/adventure
viewing setting: home Bluray 3/17/26

synopsis: A young hero challenges numerous monsters as he tries to save his love and fulfill his destiny.

impressions: This was one of the more exciting fantasy movies from my childhood, and focused on Greek myths and legends. It's got a lot, too: gods and goddesses, the kraken, a pegasus, a medusa, witches, giant scorpions, and more. The plot is simple and sensible, the acting is good, and the action is plentiful and well-done (there are a few stop-motion effects but that's fine, as that was the best they had in 1981.)

acting: Harry Hamlin is the young hero, and does a fine job. Burgess Meredith is an old guy who helps advise him. Neil McCarthy is a bad guy who's been turned into a monster, and causes most of the trouble here. Lawrence Olivier is Zeus, king of the gods who's stubborn and not always equitable. There are some others with brief roles as various gods and goddesses.

final word: Good, solid fantasy fun.
