Ancient Aliens season 15
"We want to stand here and look at them, because once we are able to reconnect with the gods, all things are possible." - David Childress
release year: 2020
genre: TV documentary (12 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 11/2-5/25
synopsis: Aliens might have been involved in our world's history, as can be seen if you look at all the various potential evidence.
impressions: Season 15 brings us more of the same: mysterious places, unexplained mysteries, and people who want to tie them to aliens. In the past, I have discussed the imperfect logic they often use to reach their conclusions, and it continued here. I noted the use of all of the following while someone explains an alien connection: "as far as I know", "allegedly", "claimed", "we know that..." followed by an unproven claim, "as far as Linda is concerned", "but if true", "seemed to indicate", "what could be", "There are a wide variety of beings out there that are said to have come to Earth" just as some examples.
Additionally, some of the supposed experts interviewed/featured have either no credentials shown, or their credentials are questionable e.g. they work at some college no one's ever heard of, or for a newsletter they publish themselves. There are even more less-than-solid elements of their approach to the mysteries, such as:
someone sent the lady some pieces of metal and said they were from a UFO, so that's where she starts with her thinking
they find some pieces of wire in the desert and automatically assume they're from a UFO
hearing two different possibilities (one conventional and one alien-oriented) they just pick the one they want to believe
just because some tribe has big hats does not mean they're modeled after ancient alien skulls
one guy doesn't say the hats LOOK LIKE ANTENNAS, he simply calls them antennas
their "proof" of UFO sightings are either unsubstantiated claims or stories in publications no one's ever heard of
the answer to "how do we know that it was 35 miles away?" was "the captain flying the helicopter, that was his estimate"
another guy who believes that if two different groups report the same thing, then it must be true
one person also confidently stated "I can prove it" and immediately followed that with a reworded version of the thing he just said he could prove
another guy cited a 1973 claim of alien abduction and in the very next sentence said "...he began having experiences with these aliens."
another listened to a guy give his interpretation of a statue's alien origins and immediately nodded and accepted that as fact and went on linking that to other aspects of his theories
someone went from "claimed it was ransacked" to "it was ransacked" in the span of three sentences
a billionaire who bought Skinwalker Ranch and spent a lot of time and money researching its supposed oddities and then sold it and never said anything about it...does NOT mean that he found anything!
Honestly, guys...not every big statue in the world means something special. Sometimes people just build big statues because they think it's cool...but in some statues, the one theorist sees gloves, packs, helmets, headsets...it's all just his opinion. I could go on and on, but you probably get the point.
Now having said all of the above...I do believe that something strange is going on (or did before) at many of the places they discuss in this show. I really, truly do. I just can't accept some of the logic and reasoning they use to try and put it all together. Especially when they use approaches such as the Gish Gallop to present their thinking. One thing I absolutely agree with is the idea that to ancient people, any technology would have seemed like magic and so that's how they'd document what they saw. At any rate, this 15th season contained the following episodes/topics (the boldfaced ones were those I found most enjoyable and least insane) :
episode 1: the mysteries of waterborne island-city Nan Madol
episode 2: tiny pieces of unusual metal that might have come from UFO crashes
episode 3: possible reasons for Chile's unusually high rate of UFO sightings
episode 4: this episode was skipped on our streaming service
episode 5: the possibility that statues were/are data repositories
episode 6: discussion of potential older-than-thought ages of some sites, and the use of pyramids as arks
episode 7: all about the prevalence of Pleiades references among ancient civilizations and their legends
episode 8: possible ways to achieve immortality; Giant Rock and the Integratron
episode 9: shapeshifters (gods, octopi, vampires, werewolves) and the possibility that they were all aliens
episode 10: all about the claimed-to-be-haunted Skinwalker Ranch
episode 11: general discussion about UFOs...past and mass sightings, different shapes, aerodynamics, etc.
episode 12: U.S. Presidents' sightings and thoughts on UFOs
acting: The narration is strong and consistent, and the interviews are usually interesting and entertaining. I have to stress that "entertaining" does not always equal "credible."
final word: Interesting finds and ideas, some of which could be true, depending on how one applies logic.
